The Polish Association of Agricultural Biogas Producers and the Polish Biomethane Association are organizing the seminar , “Maintaining competitiveness of Polish agriculture and agri-food processing in the context of carbon footprint labeling”.

The Polish Biomethane Association and the Polish Association of Agricultural Biogas Producers cordially invite you to the seminar:

“Maintaining competitiveness of Polish agriculture and agri-food processing in the context of carbon footprint labeling of products”.

The carbon footprint of agriculture and agri-food processing refers to the emissions of greenhouse gases such as CO₂, CH₄ and N₂O resulting from cultivation, breeding, fertilizer use and processing and transportation. In Western European countries, rising consumer expectations are prompting the introduction of carbon footprint labeling for agri-food products, which helps identify those with lower climate impacts. Such a system could influence consumer purchasing preferences, increasing demand for low-carbon products.

Some manufacturers see this system as an opportunity to highlight their competitiveness. While the EU has not yet introduced mandatory labels, such initiatives are under consideration, and some countries are testing labels such as the UK's “Carbon Trust” and France's “Étiquette Environnementale,” which assess the entire life cycle of a product.

For Polish food producers and exporters, especially in the context of steadily growing exports, the carbon footprint need not be a problem. Poland, with less use of fertilizers than, for example, the Netherlands or Germany, may see these regulations as an opportunity to strengthen its position in the market. We still have a small biogas and biomethane production sector, which can significantly affect the size of the carbon footprint of our agri-food products. Poland's sustainable production can outpace the competition, which, combined with growing demand for organic products, offers the opportunity for further export growth.

Join us for our seminar to discuss how carbon footprint labeling can become an opportunity to increase the competitiveness of Polish products.

The event will take place on Wednesday, October 16, 2024, in Warsaw (Hoża Street 66/68, headquarters of the National Association of Dairy Cooperatives, 4th floor, conference room).

Participation in the seminar is free of charge. Due to the limited number of seats (up to 80 people), please confirm your participation by sending e-mail to: seminarium@biometan.org. In the content, please include the participant's first and last name.

The seminar will be held in Polish.

The event is being held as part of European Biomethane Week.
